Making college football upset picks for Week 8 as several teams, including Oregon, could get caught slipping and should be on upset alert.

Which ranked college football team is going to lose next? That’s the operative question at this point as teams keep dropping like flies. Last week, it was then-No. 2-ranked Iowa getting worked by Purdue. The Hawkeyes weren’t alone, though, as Auburn knocked off Arkansas, LSU got Florida, Baylor rolled BYU, and Utah got the best of Arizona State.

Now, we roll into Week 8 of the 2021 season with, at least on paper, what could be the calm before the storm. There are a ton of massive games next week, but that doesn’t mean we won’t have the opportunity for more upsets in the Week 8 slate.

Notre Dame (vs. USC) and Ole Miss (vs. Ole Miss) escape being put on upset alert, but these other five teams aren’t so lucky for Week 8 with our upset picks.

College football upset pick Week 8, No. 5: San Diego State Aztecs

Rank: 22 | Opponent: at Air Force Falcons | Time: Saturday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. ET

Of all the undefeated teams in college football, San Diego State might be the one that is talked about the least. The Aztecs have won their first six games but haven’t made it look easy. Most notably, it took three overtimes to narrowly edge out Utah and then double overtime to outlast a mediocre San Jose State squad last week.

The truth about SDSU is that this team isn’t spectacular in any aspect except their run defense. Now, going up against a triple-option offense like the one Air Force runs, you might think that plays in their favor.

However, the truth of the matter is that defending the option is much different than just defending the run. Furthermore, the Aztecs’ actual biggest strength has been their ability to control the pace of games and execute in doing that because their offense is limite. It feels as if the Falcons, though, are better in that aspect.

Put simply, Air Force is a team that can take what San Diego State does and turn it on its head. The fact that they are underdogs against the Falcons says all you need to know about how in danger the Aztecs actually are.
