5-star recruit Mykel Williams decommits from USC to commit to Georgia

Five-star defensive lineman Mykel Williams has flipped his commitment from USC to Georgia.
Kirby Smart’s Georgia football program picks up a huge commitment on Wednesday morning, as five-star defensive lineman Mykel Williams has flipped from USC to now play for his home state’s team.
The Columbus, Georgia native has 30 offers and had initially committed to USC over the summer. However, Clay Helton’s firing and Georgia’s endless pursuit of the 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive lineman culminated in Williams flipping his commitment on Oct. 20. Williams made an unofficial visit to Georgia on Oct. 2 and his official visit to Athens on Oct. 19 before Committing to the G.
Williams is Georgia’s 20th hard commitment for the 2022 class and its second five-star of this class after linebacker Malaki Starks from Jefferson, Georgia. The Dawgs now have the No. 2 class in the country for 2022 behind only the Alabama Crimson Tide.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Williams is the No. 3 player from Georgia, the No. 5 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 22 overall prospect nationally.
Versatility in the trenches combined with his improving pass-rushing prowess are reasons why everybody was so high on landing Williams’ five-star commitment. He has the potential to be an All-SEC playmaker.
Williams’ commitment to Georgia came off a huge win for the Dawgs over the SEC East rival Kentucky Wildcats. ESPN’s College GameDay was in attendance in Athens.
During the telecast, you could spot members of the Spike Squad with their chests painted to try to sway Williams to flip from USC to Georgia. With as good as the Dawgs have been, why not Commit to the G?
Georgia is now only a few points from overtaking Alabama for the top recruiting class for 2022.
