New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman further stressed the need for shortstop in New York. Here are three elite options to fill the void.

With Gleyber Torres now at second base in New York, the Yankees now have a glaring void at the shortstop position.

“I think Gleyber is best served at second base,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said when he moved Gleyber to his new position on Sept. 13. To accommodate for Gleyber, the team moved Gio Urshela from third base to shortstop, while DJ LeMahieu and Rougned Odor shared time at third.

After an early AL Wild Card exit, the 92-70 Yankees are still having shortstop problems — but now, they have the opportunity to address it in free agency.

Cashman will have his eye out for a new shortstop this offseason, so here are a few free agent options that should catch his eye as he scours the market.

Carlos Correa

Earlier this week, the Houston Astros shortstop Correa trolled a New York Mets fan who asked if he would consider the Mets in free agency.

While Correa clarified that he wasn’t about the blue and orange, the biggest shortstop heading into free agency did say he liked “blue and pinstripe.”

Correa’s excellence is still on full display as his Astros continue to advance in the ALCS after a heroic ninth inning comeback in Game 4. In his decade-long career with the Astros, Correa enjoyed his best year in 2017, when he won the World Series and was named to the All-Star and All-World Baseball Classic Team.

But Correa has still got it in 2021, when he made the All-Star Game again and sent a home run sailing in Game 1 with an iconic taunt.

According to NJ.com, an MLB insider included the Yankees as a potential destination for Correa.
