Big 12 commish Bob Bowlsby sounds like a scorned lover over Texas, Oklahoma divorce

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby is bad-mouthing Texas and Oklahoma over their move to the SEC like an ex who isn’t over the breakup.

The dust is still settling on Texas and Oklahoma choosing to join the SEC. The Big 12 is clearly still going through the stages of grief.

Let’s call this particular moment the bargaining phase.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby recently spoke to CBS Sports and laid out his argument against the Longhorns and Sooners leaving his conference.

“Their chances [of making the College Football Playoff] are better coming through the Big 12,” Bowlsby said. “That’s a silly part of it. It’s not very much money, and competitively, they’ve got a better path. It makes no sense.”

If that sounds like a jilted lover pleading for a second chance, that’s because it essentially is.

Bowlsby might have a point about the CFP and a clear path to get there. But the idea that Texas and Oklahoma are being silly by joining the SEC could only be uttered by someone who still isn’t over being dumped.

The SEC is the strongest, most influential conference in college football. They generate the most revenue and offer the highest level of competition. It makes perfect sense why those traditional Big 12 powers would want to join up.
