When is the last time USC football beat Notre Dame in South Bend?
How long has it been since USC football got a road win against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend? The Trojans are in a drought.
The USC vs. Notre Dame rivalry is full of streaks and droughts. For whatever reason, the Trojans and Irish aren’t keen on trading back and forth. When one side is better than the other, it tends to stay that way for a while.
The Trojans are in the middle of one of those rough patches when it comes to facing the Irish. They’ve lost three in a row and seven of the last 10.
While it’s only been four years since USC’s last win in the series, they’ve had to wait a lot longer for a victory on the road.
When is the last time USC football beat Notre Dame in South Bend?
The Trojans haven’t won at Notre Dame Stadium since 2011 when Lane Kiffin’s team jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead and returned a goal-line fumble for a touchdown in the second half to shut the door on an Irish comeback.
They had recently started to find their feet after a shaky start to the year and that win arguably helped spark a memorable run to end that season.
Since then, USC has gone back to Indiana four times with no luck. In 2013, interim head coach Ed Orgeron lost his second game in charge, 14-10. In 2015, interim head coach Clay Helton debuted with a 41-31 loss.
The 2017 loss was an embarrassing 49-14 rout while Kedon Slovis and the Trojans showed some fight in 2019’s 30-27 defeat.
Since the 2020 game was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s battle will be the first time in rivalry history with consecutive meetings in South Bend. USC will be looking to buck the recent trend of trips to the midwest.
