Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions should have at least one win by now, but they are sadly 0-7.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, but one of these days, Dan Campbell and his Detroit Lions will taste sweet NFL victory together before the end of the season.

It is a total rebuild in the Motor City, but this team is playing so hard for its head coach. If not for a pair of last-second field goals by the Baltimore Ravens and the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit could very well be 2-5. But that is the NFL for you, where the margins between winning and losing are forever razor-thin. No, this team is not the 2008 team. They will win games this year, but when?

Here is the Lions’ remaining schedule. There are so many winnable games the rest of the way.

Detroit Lions’ remaining 2021 NFL schedule

  • Week 8: vs. Philadelphia Eagles
  • Week 9: Bye
  • Week 10: at Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Week 11: at Cleveland Browns
  • Week 12: vs. Chicago Bears
  • Week 13: vs. Minnesota Vikings
  • Week 14: at Denver Broncos
  • Week 15: vs. Arizona Cardinals
  • Week 16: at Atlanta Falcons
  • Week 17: at Seattle Seahawks
  • Week 18: vs. Green Bay Packers

Detroit has 10 games left, as well as a bye in Week 9. Of their remaining opponents, the two toughest are clearly the undefeated Arizona Cardinals in Week 15 and the division rival Green Bay Packers in the final week of the season. Though those are probably Lions defeats, as least Detroit plays those two emerging NFC juggernauts at home. Green Bay might be resting players by then.

So all of the Lions’ remaining games are winnable to some extent. Winning at Pittsburgh in Week 9 will be hard, but the Steelers aren’t world-beaters. Plus, this game is coming off a Lions bye. For all we know, the Lions can beat the rebuilding Philadelphia Eagles at home in Week 8 to head into the bye week with a victory. They played the Los Angeles Rams hard, so maybe it’s coming next week?

If not in Week 8, expect for the Lions to win their first game well before the holiday season arrives.
