Rockets rookie Jalen Green threw down over Jason Tatum of the Celtics with a highlight jam that threatened to take down the rim.

Houston drafted Jalen Green with the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft with hopes of him lighting up the Toyota Center.

He did just that on Sunday night with a monster jam to give Rockets fans something to cheer about.

Fans in Houston can look forward to many more Green slams as his career unfolds.

Jalen Green had a break out night for the Rockets against the Celtics

For now, the key is patience. On Sunday, that highlight didn’t change the result: a 107-97 loss dropping Houston to 1-2.

Still, it was the most promising performance from Green on an individual level yet. He dropped 30 points while going 8-of-10 from beyond the arc. That’s a franchise rookie record for triples in a game. He also had four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.

Green had been relatively quiet in his first two NBA games. He had nine points against the Timberwolves and Thunder but hit fewer than 36.4 percent of his shots in either match up.

Sunday was much more like it for the promising playmaker who lit up the G League. He’s starting to look like Houston drafted to turn around their fortunes.

On Tuesday, he’ll get his first look at the Dallas Mavericks as the Rockets seek their second win of the season and a .500 record.
