With Carlos Correa all set to enter free agency this offseason, could he end up making a surprise return to the Houston Astros?

What’s the future have in store for Carlos Correa? The star Houston Astros slugger is hoping to bring home another World Series title, but he’s in the last year of his current deal. While fans are hoping that he’ll return to town, things very much are up in the air.

Correa figures to draw plenty of attention this summer and winter, with teams like the New York Yankees ready to chase his signature and offer up a boatload of cash to make it happen. At this point, Astros fans shouldn’t feel too optimistic about a reunion.

Astros: Carlos Correa free agency rumors

Earlier this month, team owner Jim Crane said he felt the team still has a chance to bring back Correa, but again, things don’t look promising. The 27-year-old was reportedly offered a five-year extension last offseason, but he was looking for a longer contract. Houston didn’t budge.

Now, Correa has only seen his value go up after another big-time season, with the Astros in the hunt to win their second World Series since 2017. Crane and the rest of the front office must be kicking themselves for not getting things done last offseason and clearly frustrating Correa in the process.

This could turn out to be great news for the Yankees, though, as New York could no doubt throw a mega-deal Correa’s way. Fans in the Bronx are furious with Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman after the team lost the AL Wild Card Game to the Boston Red Sox. Going out and landing Correa would sure bring plenty of excitement for New York. Only time will tell if that happens or not.
