Tennessee football: Former promising Vols QB recruit enters transfer portal

Former four-star quarterback recruit Harrison Bailey is transferring from the Tennessee football program after spending part of two seasons in Knoxville.
With a new coaching change and not a lot of playing time to show for it, former four-star quarterback Harrison Bailey is transferring from the Tennessee football program.
Bailey was a top-100 recruit nationally coming out of Marietta, Georgia in the 2020 recruit class. Though he had 22 official offers coming out of high school, Bailey had long been connected to Tennessee. However, his two primary recruiters in Chris Weinke and Jim Chaney are no longer part of the program, as they were not retained by new Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel in 2021.
Bailey was the Volunteers’ third-string quarterback behind Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton this season. He only played in garbage time vs. FSC Tennessee Tech over a month ago.
Here is the heartfelt message Bailey sent out on Twitter on his decision to enter the portal.

Though it is very early in the process, Bailey did receive offers from many prominent Power Five schools in the southeastern footprint including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Kentucky. With so many coaching changes having happened since the height of Bailey’s recruitment in 2018, it is really up in the air as to where he could potentially end up.
If he does wish to play closer to home, Georgia Tech would not be a bad landing spot for him.
