With DeSean Jackson and the Rams seeking a trade to send the veteran receiver out of Los Angles, could the Eagles make a deal to get him back?

DeSean Jackson is set on leaving the Rams for greener pastures and looking to get a trade done before the deadline.

So, naturally, the Eagles have come up as a potential destination. After all, Jackson spent the heyday of his career in Philadelphia.

He came back for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, but his involvement was limited to just eight appearances across two years because of injury. Now that he’s healthy and apparently available, could a third stint become a reality?

Could the Eagles make a DeSean Jackson trade happen?

The Eagles just picked up a sixth-round draft pick from the Jets in the Joe Flacco trade. They could turn around and offer that to the Rams for the surplus wide receiver. They also have three fifth-round draft picks for 2022 to work with.

The question really isn’t whether Philadelphia could afford the move. Is it worth it for either party?

Jackson is seeking more playing time and he could get it with the Eagles. Their uber young receiving corps is led by DeVonta Smith and Quez Watkins, with flashes from Jalen Reagor. An old head in there could help Jalen Hurts.

At the same time, Philadelphia might be better off leaning into their youth. Signing Jackson would mean taking snaps away from someone. It wouldn’t make the Eagles any more ambitious this season and it might hinder the development of those receivers. It would also mean parting with a draft pick that could end up being more valuable in the long run than half a season of Jackson.

Moreover, Jackson’s only reason to consider a move back to the Eagles would have to be based around sentiment. He could be pursued by a number of playoff contenders in need of receiving help. Why would head for Philadelphia in a rebuild for playing time when he could get playing time and a postseason run elsewhere.
