The Atlanta Braves are closing in on the fourth World Series in franchise history and second in their current city. Where were the Braves before Atlanta?

The Atlanta Braves have been a staple in the MLB lore for several decades now. However, they weren’t always in Atlanta.

As the franchise searches for the fourth World Series victory in its history, it would actually just be the second while residing in Georgia.

So where has the franchise been before they moved to the ATL? It’s actually been a bit of a journey across the United States.

Where were the Braves before Atlanta?

Prior to moving to Atlanta, the team actually played in both Boston and Milwaukee.

They were known by several different nicknames after being founded as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871 but adopted their current nickname in 1912 and, aside from a stint as the Bees from 1936-40. They then moved the franchise to Milwaukee in 1953.

When did the Braves move to Atlanta?

The franchise officially moved to Atlanta in 1966, where they’ve obviously resided since. And they won their lone World Series in the city back in 1995, raising the stakes to get another one in 2021.
