Chantelle Cameron vs. Mary McGee was the main event on Saturday, Oct. 30, at The O2 Arena. It was an action fight that saw Cameron stay undefeated.

England’s Chantelle Cameron put on a show at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, Oct. 30. Fortunately, she had a game opponent in Mary McGee, who pushed her for 10 intense rounds in a super lightweight unification contest. Cameron got the win and made her home country proud.

There was rarely a second of the fight where Cameron and McGee weren’t throwing punches. It was an all-action affair that had fantastic action, but Cameron’s accuracy won her the battle.

Cameron (15-0, 8 KOs) came into the fight with the WBC super lightweight title. She initially won the belt in 2020, defeating Adriana dos Santos Araujo. She was an amateur standout who looks like she is hitting her physical prime at 30 years old.

McGee (27-4, 15 KOs) was the IBF champion headed into her showdown with Cameron. The American from Gary, Indiana, was brave to take on Cameron in Cameron’s backyard. She showed courage and determination throughout the fight, but Cameron was the sharper boxer.

With Mary McGee out of the way, Chantelle Cameron awaits the winner of Kali Reis vs. Jessica Camara

McGee was the aggressor early in the fight, but Cameron pushed McGee to the canvas at the end of round 2. It was a cheap shot, but one meant to intimidate and establish dominance. It was a move that worked.

As the rounds went on, Cameron became the more aggressive fighter and had McGee on her back foot at times. The action ebbed and flowed, but Cameron did a better job of closing rounds. McGee tended to smother her punches in close.

Give credit to McGee for her effort, but she tried too hard to keep her hands moving instead of taking calculated shots. A more cautious and planned attack might have served her better.

The judges returned scores of 100-90, 99-91, and 99-92, all for Cameron. The scores were too wide, but they represented the deserving victor.

Expect Cameron to meet the winner of Kali Reis vs. Jessica Camara, who fight on Nov. 19 for the other half of the division titles.
