Jonas Sultan came in as the underdog against Carlos Caraballo on their Oct. 30 ESPN+ bout at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden but won the night.

You can’t judge a fighter purely by their record, and bantamweight boxer Jonas Sultan showed why on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Bantamweight boxers Sultan and Carlos Caraballo put on a show at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Caraballo (14-1, 14 KOs) came into the contest with a perfect record, but Sultan proved that he’s much better than the 17-5 record he came with.

Throughout the fight, Sultan dropped Caraballo a total of four times. The first came in round 2 but was quickly repeated in round 3.

There were a total of 5 knockdowns scored between Jonas Sultan and Carlos Caraballo

Sultan was also down in round 3, but it wasn’t the cleanest knockdown, and he never looked hurt. To be fair, Caraballo never looked weak on his feet, even after surviving knockdowns in rounds 6 and 9.

With all those extra points scored by Sultan, you would think that he would cruise to a comfortable points win, but that’s not what happened. All three judges returned scores of 94-93. Sultan got the unanimous decision, but by a ridiculously close margin.

Still, Sultan got the win and showed that he’s a bantamweight to keep an eye on.
