The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are the No. 9 team in the country in the latest Coaches Poll and the No. 10 team in the land in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

Dave Clawson’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons are officially a top 10 team in college football.

The Demon Deacons are 8-0 on the year and 5-0 in ACC play. While the bulk of their most difficult games are coming in November, they are the No. 9 team in the Coaches Poll and the No. 10 team in the AP Top 25 heading in Week 9. One would expect the Demon Deacons will find themselves in the top 10 of the first College Football Playoff Rankings too, which will come out Tuesday night.

Now that the Demon Deacons find themselves inside of the top 10, when was the last time they were ranked this high?

Wake Forest football: The last time Demon Deacons were ranked in the top 10

This is uncharted territory for the Wake Forest football program. They have never been ranked inside of the top 10 in any major poll in program history. Not even the iconic 2006 Demon Deacons team led by former head coach Jim Grobe ever got this high in any meaningful poll. Wake Forest won the ACC, finishing the season at 11-3 overall, No. 17 in the Coaches and No. 18 in the AP.

Wake Forest plays a non-conference game vs. North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Saturday. After that, it is NC State, Clemson and Boston College to round out ACC play. If the Demon Deacons keep on winning, they will win the ACC Atlantic with a potential ACC Championship on the horizon. An undefeated Wake Forest team will make the 2022 College Football Playoff. This is truly amazing.

In all likelihood, Wake Forest is preparing for a conference title and a New Year’s Six bowl berth.
