Michael Brantley looked like he should’ve been called out on a controversial play at first base in the first inning of Game 6.

Max Fried should’ve gotten the call, despite a dubious error in the first inning of Game 6. With Brantley running down the first-base line, Fried got a delayed throw from the normally sure-handed Freddie Freeman as he ran towards first base.

Fired stumbled, and fell over the basepaths, almost colliding with Brantley and getting his ankle cleated in the process. Thankfully, that didn’t occur, though Brantley was called safe on the play.

Max Fried error: Was Michael Brantley safe?

No, Brantley should not have been called safe. The Braves, however, opted not to challenge the play for some odd reason. They were more concerned with Fried’s safety, as one of their best pitchers was limping after committing what looked to be an error.

Fried did not touch the bag at first, but instead stumbled into it. Meanwhile, Brantley never made contact with the base as he had to avoid Fried. So in a way, falling over helped the dubious Fried, though he’ll never see the end result of the play.

The Braves pitcher was able to get through that inning unscathed, torching the heart of the Astros order. He should consider himself lucky.

Max Fried height: How tall is Max Fried?

Fried is a tall one, standing at 6-foot-4.

Max Freid weight: How much does Fried weigh?

Fried is a lanky 190 pounds.

While the flaw didn’t come back to haunt the Braves, it’s not a great sign of things to come for this umpiring crew. Snitker cannot sit on his hands in that situation, either.

After falling behind 3-1, the Astros have two games at home to potentially complete a memorable comeback. Doing so against Fried will not be easy, however, and they ought to take advantage of gifts like the one Snitker and Fried provided them.
