Carlos Correa comments on Astros future after World Series loss

WIth the Houston Astros season over, it sure sounds like Carlos Correa is taking one last lap before he leaves in free agency. 

The Houston Astros season ended much the same way it started. Not only are they without a World Series trophy, but rumors of what the future holds for Carlos Correa are beginning to swirl.

It took almost no time between the final out of Game 6 on Tuesday and talk of Correa’s exit from Houston beginning. The rumors are nothing new to Astros fans, as there has been talk of a trade going all the way back to Spring Training.

With the season officially over, though, the reality of the situation is starting to set in. At least the rumors at the beginning of the season had the caveat of Correa still being under contract for 162 games. It would have been the Astros decision to move him, not the laws of baseball that decided where he ended up.

That’s all gone, and it sounds like soon too will Correa.

After the Game 6 loss, Correa seemingly showed his hand about what his future holds by speaking about the Astros in the past tense.

Correa also sent a message directly to fans in the wake of the Game 6 loss, and it sure sounded like a farewell.

“To the fans, I want to say thank you for your support. My time here was amazing,” Correa said. “I got here as a boy and turned into a man.”

Correa enters free agency as one of the top talents on the market, and becomes the leader of a an absolutely stacked class of shortstops looking for work. There’s still a chance he returns to Houston, but the market price will likely be well beyond what the Astros are willing to pay.

Simply put, if Correa’s future was in Houston a deal would have already been struck so that no one was even in this situation. It’s not the send off that Correa or fans might have wanted, but Game 6 sure seems like the end of the road.
