Georgia football LB Adam Anderson charged with rape, voluntarily surrenders to police
Georgia football suspended linebacker Adam Anderson last week amid rape allegations and, on Wednesday, he was formally charged by police.
Prior to the Georgia football game against Missouri this past week, star linebacker Adam Anderson was suspended indefinitely as he faced rape allegations, which his attorney at the time called “unfounded”.
On Wednesday, however, the Athens-Clarke County police department charged Anderson with rape, as reported by The Athletic’s Seth Emerson. Anderson reportedly willingly turned himself in upon being informed of the charges.
The Georgia linebacker’s attorney also issued a statement that echoed his previous statement on the matter, saying Anderson “is innocent of the charge brought against him and intends to vigorously defend himself in court.”

In the wake of his initial suspension handed down by head coach Kirby Smart, Anderson and his attorney attempted to appeal to allow him to play, but that was unsuccessful.
As reported by ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, the incident report filed against Anderson stated that a 21-year-old woman had drinks at a house in Athens on Friday, Oct. 29, one day prior to the game against Florida in Jacksonville, in which Anderson played. The woman then says she woke up while Anderson was raping her.
Anderson was projected by many analysts as a potential first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. His football future at Georgia and at the next level, though, are now on hold as he faces these serious charges.
