Will Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh be able to improve his record against the Penn State Nittany Lions or will his recent struggles continue?

Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines are preparing to face off against James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Harbaugh has been coach of the Wolverines since 2015, so how have his teams fared against Penn State since?

Things started off great for Harbaugh and Michigan as they thrived against the Nittany Lions early on in his tenure, winning three of the first four games vs. Penn State.

In 2015, Michigan beat Penn State 28-16 while on the road, and then, in 2016, the Wolverines crushed the Nittany Lions at home, winning 49-10.

Unfortunately for Michigan fans, Harbaugh’s last win over Penn State came in the form of a 42-7 victory back in 2018. Things have been a bit rougher since.

Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh has lost 3 of the last 4 to Penn State

Harbaugh hasn’t had much fun when his Michigan teams have faced Penn State in recent years. Franklin has been able to steadily improve the Nittany Lions and, as such, Penn State has been able to snag wins in three of the past four seasons against Michigan.

Penn State beat Michigan in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

While Harbaugh’s overall record against Penn State is solid, he’s in a bit of a slump and that could prove dangerous if he wants to continue coaching the Wolverines. Michigan will need to win against Penn State to continue having a special season. Harbaugh needs a special season to prove he can help the Wolverines win at a high level.
