The Oklahoma football season is on life support after losing badly to Baylor, but here is how the Sooners can still make it into the College Football Playoff.

After falling to the Baylor Bears in Waco 24-14, the Oklahoma football team has to pick up the pieces fast if they still want to make it into the College Football Playoff.

To some degree, the Sooners control their own destiny, but may need some help from teams outside of the Big 12 for them to get one of four spots into the big dance. To date, Oklahoma has made the College Football Playoff four times, but has yet to win a national semifinal game. The Sooners have won the last six Big 12 Championships, but they must make it seven in a row now.

Here is what Oklahoma needs to do to have any shot of making it into the playoff this season.

Oklahoma football can still make the College Football Playoff

First things first. Oklahoma has to win its final two conference games to potentially make the playoff. Those games are home vs. Iowa State next week and at in-state rival Oklahoma State in Bedlam during Thanksgiving Weekend. At 11-1 (8-1), Oklahoma will have clinched a spot in the Big 12 title bout. From there, the Sooners would need to beat another Big 12 foe over in Arlington.

At 12-1 (8-1) as Big 12 Champions, Oklahoma could get in as a Power Five champion as a No. 3 or No. 4 seed. The Sooners would prefer only one SEC and one Big Ten team getting in to increase their odds. Simply, Oklahoma needs Georgia to go undefeated to knock out a second SEC team. They also need undefeated Cincinnati to lose and for Oregon to take a second loss in the Pac-12.

Though a 12-1 Big 12 champion Oklahoma team could potentially get in, the Sooners will need some help outside of the Big 12 footprint to ensure themselves that they are getting in this year.
