Baker Mayfield suffers an apparent leg injury and is taken off the field during the game against the New England Patriots

During the third quarter of what has been a beatdown of the Cleveland Browns at the hands of the New England Patriots, quarterback Baker Mayfield went down on the field and struggled to get back up on his own power.

The Browns’ training staff rushed the field to help the franchise quarterback while Case Keenum, Mayfield’s backup, immediately started warming up during a 31-7 game in Foxboro.

Mayfield has struggled with injuries this season, missing a game earlier this season with a shoulder injury. He seemed to rush through the injury report but has clearly not been healthy this season. The Browns, who are currently third in the AFC North with a 5-4 record, have also had several other injuries across the team to deal with, including injuries to running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

Before getting injured and exiting the game, Mayfield was 11-of-21 for 73 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Should the Browns go on to lose against the Patriots, they drop to 5-5 and fall to last place in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals on their bye week. Cleveland also has a tough remaining schedule with two games against the Baltimore Ravens, a rematch with Cincinnati and a road date with the Steelers among their upcoming contests.
