The Houston Astros and Starling Marte are doing their best to heat up the offseason hot stove and fuel some MLB Rumors

Less than a month after losing the World Series to the Atlanta Braves, the Houston Astros are gearing up to make some moves in free agency.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Astros near the tail-end of their World Series run was what the team would look like moving forward. One of the narratives attached to Houston was that this might be the end of the road for a team that first won the World Series in 2017 and has consistently contended in the years since.

It sounds like despite all of the outside noise surrounding the Astros, the team has no interest in going quietly into the night.

MLB Rumors: Astros meet with Starling Marte

According to Jon Heyman, the Astros have made contact and already have a meeting with Starling Marte.

“Astros met with the agents for free agent centerfielder Starling Marte. Seems like a potential fit but there’s competition, including Phillies, Mets, Yanks, Marlins and others,” Heyman reported.

The stiff competition is something to keep an eye on when it comes to Marte landing in Houston. He’s a fantastic all-around fit for the Astros, as he brings award-winning defense to the field and adds another big bat to the lineup, which is exactly why he’ll likely get top dollar in free agency. Whether or not the Astros get priced out of his market is yet to be seen,  especially given rival contenders in the Yankees being interested.

New York’s incentive to add Marte goes beyond just adding his talent to their clubhouse, it would also block of Houston from being able to use him against them in the postseason next season.
