The Houston Astros probably can’t afford to keep Carlos Correa, so it might just be time to say farewell to a fan favorite

Carlos Correa is going to be a very expensive free agent in this free agency class. He’s likely going to be paid an absurd amount of money. Unfortunately for Astros fans, that contract probably won’t come from Houston.

And that’s going to be heartbreaking for many Astros fans.

Correa has been a key member of Houston’s incredible run of success over these past few seasons. He helped Houston finally win a World Series back in 2017 and then has been a central figure in keeping the Astros a legitimate contender in every season since then.

It’ll be hard for Houston if he ends up leaving.

Because of how talented Correa is, it seems likely that he’ll seek out a lengthy contract that will be more than what Houston can afford.

That’ll be especially true when considering how Houston’s pitchers struggled considerably throughout this recent run to the World Series. While potentially losing Correa would be a monumental loss because of how great of a player he is, the Astros must prioritize going out and improving their starting pitching.

They took a step towards that when they decided to bring back Verlander, but given his age and recent Tommy John surgery, there’s no guarantee that he’ll still be healthy or as good as he once was by the end of the season. Securing another solid starter should be what the Astros focus on.

Unfortunately, that would come at the cost of losing Correa.
