Top 30 NFL players of the 1990s
10. John Randle
Goodness gracious do I love me some John Randle. I was half tempted to bump him up a few spots simply for his sound effects alone. Some of the most entertaining NFL Films feature Randle yelling out some of his trademark trash talk and flare. Whether it was “Regulators, mount up!” or simply just making egregious noises at the top of his lungs, Randle was a one of a kind character.
He was also a one of a kind player. Randle went undrafted in the 1990 NFL Draft, but quickly became the most dominant force on the Vikings’ defense. In his second season, he tallied 9.5 sacks, which he followed up by having eight consecutive seasons with double digit sacks. He led the NFL in sacks in 1997 with 15.5, and his 137.5 career sacks are the most ever by an interior defensive lineman.
Randle was a seven-time Pro Bowler, and a six-time All-Pro. He is a member of the 1990s All-Decade team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010. He is one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings of all time, and arguably the greatest interior lineman in NFL history.
