Chiefs believe corner Rashad Fenton will be ‘fine’ after knee injury

The Kansas City Chiefs believe they dodged disaster on Sunday, with cornerback Rashad Fenton leaving the game with a knee injury.

Sunday couldn’t have gone better for the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, almost.

Kansas City beat the Dallas Cowboys, 19-9, at Arrowhead Stadium. It was a dominant performance by the defense, which intercepted Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott twice, sacked him five times and held the Cowboys’ offense to three field goals.

However, the Chiefs had to be concerned after third-year corner Rashad Fenton made a second-half tackle along the sideline but then crawled off the field in obvious pain. Afterwards, the team stated Fenton had a knee injury and would need an MRI.

On Monday afternoon, a source told FanSided that Fenton is believed to be “fine,” giving Kansas City fans a reason to breathe easy.

Fenton played as a role player during his first two seasons, usually starring on special teams and playing in sub packages on the defense. However, his role has increased dramatically in 2021, and it has coincided with the Chiefs’ defense going from league-worst in many categories to one of the best in the league over the past month.

Starting in Week 5, Fenton largely took over for beleaguered corner Mike Hughes. His play has been spectacular, as Pro Football Focus had him rated as the best cornerback in football entering last weekend.

Luckily for the Chiefs and Fenton, they have their bye coming up this weekend. Should Fenton need a few weeks to recover, he has extra time to utilize.
