The last time Michigan beat Ohio State, Jim Harbaugh was coaching the San Francisco 49ers.

While it is one of the most celebrated rivalry games in all of college football, it has been a long time since the Michigan Wolverines have beaten the Ohio State Buckeyes on the gridiron.

Though the Wolverines still hold the all-time series lead over the Buckeyes at 58-52-6, they have had a very rough go of it during the 21st century. Since 2001, Michigan has beaten Ohio State exactly twice in their last 19 meetings. While they did not play a year ago due to the global pandemic, the one-loss Wolverines stand their best chance to beat the Buckeyes in five years.

So when was the last time Michigan actually beat Ohio State in The Game?

The Game: When was the last time Michigan beat Ohio State?

The last time the Wolverines proved victorious over the Buckeyes came on Nov. 26, 2011. No. 15 Michigan won a nail-biter over unranked Ohio State 40-34 in The Big House. Denard Robinson was the quarterback for the Wolverines. His head coach was Brady Hoke. Jim Harbaugh had just left Stanford to lead the NFL‘s San Francisco 49ers. Luke Fickell was the Buckeyes’ interim coach.

The following offseason, Ohio State hired Urban Meyer off the ESPN set. He went 7-0 during his seven years leading the Buckeyes. Though he briefly retired from the coaching profession, his successor Ryan Day has yet to lose a conference game during his three-year run leading Ohio State. With two top-10 teams going at it on Saturday, maybe the home team Michigan wins it?

This is the Wolverines’ best chance to beat the Buckeyes since falling in double overtime in The Horseshoe back in 2016.
