College Football media reacts to Ohio State jumping over Alabama in the latest CFP rankings

As is the case every week, College Football Playoff committee chair Gary Barta joined the ESPN broadcast to share his reasoning for their picks. When it comes to the Ohio State-Alabama flip, it is due to the Buckeyes blowing out the Michigan State Spartans that caught the committee’s attention. Additionally, Barta said that Ohio State is getting better on a weekly basis, while Alabama has not, where they are specifically struggling on defense.

It is true, especially after what college football fans saw this past weekend. Ohio State essentially had the win clinched before halftime, thanks in part to a 423-yard and six-touchdown performance by quarterback C.J. Stroud. They had a 49-0 lead at halftime and cruised to a 56-7 victory.

As for Alabama, they had their hands full with the Arkansas Razorbacks. In fact, the Crimson Tide did not seal the 42-35 victory until the final moments of the fourth quarter. It was far from the greatest performance by Nick Saban’s team, hence why they fell one spot in the rankings.

Both teams will be in for some huge games this upcoming weekend. Ohio State will take on the Michigan Wolverines, who ranked as the fifth-overall team by the committee, while Alabama takes on the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl.
