Quinton’ Rampage’ Jackson and Shannon Briggs are team captains for Triller’s Triad Combat event, but soon, we could see the two in a triangle.

Former MMA champion Quinton’ Rampage’ Jackson and former boxing champion Shannon Briggs had some words for each other on a recent media call ahead of Triller’s Triad Combat debut on Saturday, Nov. 27. It seems like they’re being positioned for a main event down the line.

Triad Combat combines elements of boxing and MMA into a sort of fusion inside a triangle-shaped ring that is already causing problems for the promotion. We’ll talk more about that later.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir fights former heavyweight boxing title challenger Kubrat Pulev in the main event of their first show, which features MMA fighters vs. boxers. The event takes place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX.

Jackson and Briggs are captains for the opposing teams, but there was plenty of tension between the two. They argued back and forth for the majority of the 30-minute call. Both possess eccentric and entertaining personalities, which is why they would sell tickets if they fought.

Jackson (38-14) is an MMA legend who won titles in PRIDE and the UFC. He lost his last bout to Fedor Emelianenko in 2019 via TKO in round 1.

Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) is 49 years old and hasn’t fought since 2016. He won the WBO heavyweight boxing title in 2006 by knocking out Siarhei Liakhovich. He’s used to having beef with fellow fighters and has one of the most active mouths in boxing.

Bad vibes between Quinton Jackson and Shannon Briggs has been brewing, but they may settle things in Triad Combat

“Well, Shannon is real disrespectful,” explained Jackson to FanSided on the call. “I’m gonna keep it real and be honest. It’s embarrassing to me that I lost my last fight the way I lost it.

“‘Shut up, Shannon!'” yelled Jackson at Briggs, who was laughing in the background. “And Shannon Shannon was very disrespectful. Like before I can even get to the locker room, I got a text on my phone saying, ‘I’ll fight you. I’ll fight you.'”

Briggs has been calling out Jackson since 2019, yet here they are trading barbs on a media call before Mir vs. Pulev. You have to assume this is leading to a Jackson vs. Briggs event soon.

“I think it’s going to happen for sure,” said Briggs. “I think Ryan and Nigel and the team over at Triller Fight Club they on the right track. They said, come on in, champ. You guys manage each other’s team. Cap the head captains, and that’ll be the leadoff to what’s to come soon.”

Briggs then threatened to knock out all of Jackson’s teeth, which started another row between the two.

It was entertaining seeing the masters of smack talk go at each other. Hopefully, Mir vs. Pulev will deliver in the ring and create buzz for a possible Jackson vs. Briggs bout. Mir explained to FanSided on a separate media call that he learned a lot from his lone boxing bout against Steve Cunningham in April on the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren card. Mir lost that fight by unanimous decision.

Triad Combat may have gotten off to a rough start already. BYB Extreme Bare Knuckle Fighting announced that they’re suing Triller and Ryan Kavanaugh for alleged illegal use of their patented Trigon ring design.

“Miami-based BYB Extreme Fighting Series, and its parent company, Lights Out Productions, filed a lawsuit today against Triller, Triller Fight Club, FITE TV, and Triller’s owner, Ryan Kavanaugh, over Triller’s unauthorized and unlawful use of BYB’s patented TRIGON triangle-shaped fighting ring,” stated a press release from BYB.

Who knows what will happen legally between Triller and BYB, but Triad Combat launches on Nov. 27. Pay-per-view coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on FITE.TV.
