Adrian Martinez may have played in his last game as a member of the Nebraska football team.

Adrian Martinez came to Nebraska with a lot of hype and potential. He and Scott Frost came to Lincoln together but after a 3-9 season, one that ended with Martinez unable to play due to injury, Martinez may have played his last game with the Cornhuskers.

Though he could conceivably return to Lincoln for one more season, Frost and the rest of the Cornhuskers program needs to make big changes ahead of 2022.

Martinez had a ton of talent coming out of high school, but he may need a change of scenery after 38 starts if he wants to play one more year of college football. Several schools recruited him out of high school when he was a four-star recruit and the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, so he has other opportunities.

Here are five programs Martinez could transfer to and play out his final college football season.

Arizona State is an option for Adrian Martinez

One place to keep an eye on when it comes to acquiring a transfer quarterback is Arizona State. Though Herm Edwards has brought some stability to The Valley, 2022 is the year he needs the Sun Devils to contend for a Pac-12 South title. While California native Martinez could transfer closer to home, so could former Oklahoma starter and Phoenix area native Spencer Rattler.

The Colorado Buffaloes are in need of a spark, maybe Martinez can provide that?

Things have not gone swimmingly for Karl Dorrell in his second season at the helm in Boulder. The Colorado Buffaloes may have gone bowling in 2020, but they already have seven losses entering the Utah game. Colorado is a historic rival of Nebraska, so there could be some interest for Martinez to play for the Buffs. However, the program is on shaky ground under Dorrell’s direction.

Though either Pac-12 school makes some sense for Martinez to transfer to, these three other schools are his likeliest destinations.
