The San Jose State Spartans are the best Group of Five destination for Martinez

Though San Jose State got shellacked by Fresno State in its season finale on Thanksgiving, the Spartans are only a year removed from winning the Mountain West. This is the last season Nick Starkel will play college football, so there is a potential landing spot for a proven starter like Martinez, a Fresno native. However, this is the Group of Five, and that needs to be considered if he does go there.

After a down year for West Virginia standards, the ‘Eers have to make a change

Barring a catastrophe, West Virginia will go 6-6 this season under Neal Brown. While he is seen as a good coach, he could use an upgrade at quarterback over Jarret Doege. Loyalty could prove costly for him. This was the season the Mountaineers could have pushed for a 9-3 mark and an outside shot at the Big 12 championship. Maybe Martinez gets the ‘Eers over the top in 2022?

Josh Heupel could use a seasoned veteran like Adrian Martinez at quarterback

The best place for Martinez to transfer to has to be Tennessee. The Vols have massively overachieved under first-year head coach Josh Heupel. He has brought out the very best in Hendon Hooker after he transferred from Virginia Tech. With the combination of run and throw, Martinez could be the key piece toward the Vols finishing in second in the SEC East. If so, he’d compete with Michigan transfer and one-time Vols starter, Joe Milton for the job.

If Martinez does decide to leave Lincoln, these are the programs that make the most sense for him to potentially be heading to ahead of his last season of college football.
