Georgia Tech will occasionally beat arch rival Georgia in Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets’ absolute hatred of the Georgia football team is something else.

While the Dawgs largely view the Jackets as an afterthought with bigger SEC rivals the likes of Auburn, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, Georgia Tech despises Georgia more than they enjoy winning. They may play over in the ACC, but Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate just means more to them. Though Georgia has a large 68-41-5 lead over the Jackets, Georgia Tech wins occasionally.

So when was the last time the Ramblin’ Wreck of Georgia Tech beat the Georgia football program?

Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate: When did Georgia Tech beat Georgia last?

The Jackets beat the Dawgs most recently on Nov. 26, 2016. This was Kirby Smart’s first season on the job at his alma mater. Qua Searcy would score the game-winning touchdown Between the Hedges with 30 seconds left. Harrison Butker’s made PAT gave the Jackets a decided 28-27 victory over their arch rival. This loss would stand as a pivotal moment for the Georgia program.

Seeing Georgia Tech rip up the hedges was too much for juniors like Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and others to stomach. Many draft-eligible players decided to return to Georgia for their senior seasons. What happened in 2017 was Georgia making its first trip to the College Football Playoff. They may have lost the national title, but have been to a New Year’s Bowl ever season since.

Since 2001, Georgia has won 16 of the last 19 meetings with the Yellow Jackets. Interestingly enough, the Ramblin’ Wreck’s last four wins over the Dawgs have all come at Sanford Stadium. Georgia Tech has not won a game in this rivalry series at Bobby Dodd since 1999. College Football Hall of Famer Joe Hamilton was their star quarterback. George O’Leary beat Jim Donnan in Atlanta.

With Georgia as the No. 1 team in the country and Georgia Tech losers of five games in a row, Saturday is not looking for the Yellow Jackets one bit.
