With Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC, his star quarterback Caleb Williams could follow him to Los Angeles by transferring.

Now that Lincoln Riley is leaving Oklahoma for USC, it would not be out of the realm of possibility for his former star quarterback Caleb Williams to follow him to Los Angeles by transferring.

Williams is a true freshman out of Washington, D.C. The five-star recruit has three years of eligibility left to be played after this season. Since he was willing to travel across the country and back up Spencer Rattler initially at Oklahoma, no, it would not be shocking to see Williams follow the head coach who recruited him to Norman in the first place and play for the upstart Trojans.

Ultimately, this all hinges on who the Sooners can get to replace Riley as their next head coach.

Caleb Williams transfer rumors: Could OU QB follow Lincoln Riley to USC?

Given that Oklahoma is a blue-blood program, the Sooners will get an outstanding replacement for Riley to set 2022 off on the right foot. Whether that is some like Matt Campbell, Luke Fickell or even Urban Meyer, the incoming head coach might be enough to entice Williams to stay. Then again, a new head coach might be what it takes for Rattler to stay put and not transfer himself.

The other thing to keep an eye on is many of the prominent quarterbacks from Southern California could potentially transfer back home and play for the new Trojans head coach, too. So this is a potential wrinkle that could throw a wrench in the entire thing. However, Williams’ connection to Riley is a strong one, but is that bond strong enough after one year for him to follow him to USC?

It is still too early in the process to know if Williams ends up transferring to USC, but crazier things have happened before in college football.
