Haskell Garrett apologizes to Ohio State football fans for losing Saturday’s game to Michigan.

While Michigan football fans rejoice winning The Game, Ohio State football captain Haskell Garrett reflected on failing this season’s mission.

With a second loss on the year, Ohio State is no longer in contention to make the College Football Playoff. This was a team that could have won a national title. Now, the Buckeyes are hoping Michigan wins again so they can play either Oregon or Utah in the Rose Bowl. Less than a day after losing in Ann Arbor, Garrett shared a heartfelt message over Twitter to Buckeye Nation.

A big reason why the Buckeyes lost to the school up north was because Garrett’s position group got dominated at the line of scrimmage. Michigan running back Hassan Haskins had the game of his life in the Wolverines backfield.

Ohio State football star Haskell Garrett apologizes to fans after Michigan loss

For as electrifying as the Ohio State offense was at times this season, the defense was equally as bad. Weather may have been an issue on the field Saturday, but it was abundantly clear that Michigan wanted The Game more. By beating the Buckeyes for the first time in a decade, Michigan is on the precipice of winning the Big Ten and getting invited to be in the College Football Playoff.

What this season signifies for Ohio State is there is no longer any holdover from the Urban Meyer era in Columbus whatsoever. Ryan Day’s predecessor would have never lost to Jim Harbaugh. Those a program like Ohio State will lose to Michigan every so often, expect for there to be changes to the coaching staff, or at the very least, an effort towards revamping the defense.

While Ohio State’s championship aspirations for 2021 are over, Michigan’s are very much alive.
