Three teams inside the Top 5 lost in Week 3, leading to a big shakeup atop this week’s college basketball rankings.

If the quality of basketball we’ve seen in three weeks is any indication of what’s to come we are in line for a tremendous college basketball season. The basketball itself has been crisp with thrilling games that offered potential March Madness previews, including a pair of epic showdowns in Las Vegas last week featuring Gonzaga, which finally lost a game against Duke on Friday night.

All of the drama from Feast Week led to some big changes in these college basketball rankings, which looked like a relatively stable group just a week ago. Before we dive into my personal Top 10, let’s take a look at five teams who just missed the cut.

College basketball rankings: Honorable Mentions

Memphis Tigers, Houston Cougars, Arizona Wildcats, Auburn Tigers, Alabama Wildcats

Two teams from last week’s Top 10 fell out after Memphis lost in the final of the NIT Season Tip-Off to Iowa State and Alabama got upset by Iona at the ESPN Events Invitational. The Crimson Tide bounced back from their loss by winning their final two games in Orlando while the Tigers are still awaiting their next game to erase the sting of a shocking 19-point defeat to the Cyclones.

Houston almost made the leap into the Top 10 but a two-point loss to Wisconsin on Monday will hold them back. Arizona and Auburn leap into the Honorable Mention category after impressive performances over the past few weeks.
