Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler joked with longtime Toronto Raptor DeMar DeRozan that he stole DeRozan’s best friend, former Raptors star Kyle Lowry.

Jimmy Butler just took trash-talking to a whole new level.

In a comical Instagram story photo, Butler hit DeRozan where it hurts: his heart.

“There’s a new bestie in town,” Butler said, tagging DeRozan on the photo.

The photo depicts Lowry and DeRozan chatting on the court as both former Toronto Raptors have flocked to new teams. DeRozan is enjoying a new role on the Chicago Bulls, while Lowry is hoping to win a championship alongside Butler with the Miami Heat.

Jimmy Butler brags about stealing DeMar DeRozan’s ‘bestie’ Kyle Lowry

In the past, DeRozan has opened up about his close friendship with former teammate Kyle Lowry, calling Lowry his “big brother.”

“If my mom had another son, it’d be Kyle,” DeRozan said. “If his mom had another son, it’d be me… That’s how close we are. That’s what it is to me. He’s like a big brother to me.”

All three players won a gold medal together for Team USA in Men’s Basketball during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Butler crashed an interview that DeRozan and Lowry were doing during the 2018 NBA All Star game.

Butler didn’t just steal DeRozan’s bestie: the Miami team took the win in a 107-104 victory over Chicago on Nov. 27. After the game, Lowry and Butler were joking throughout the press conference about who answered which question and who got to hold the microphone.

“Stop worrying about my interview,” Lowry said after Butler corrected his response to a question. “Well, it’s our interview, but my question.”

Butler’s Instagram post rubs salt in the wound since DeRozan and Lowry are now across the country from one another as they battle for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Tied in wins, the Heat are currently No. 2 and the Bulls are currently No. 5, although the two teams have remained competitive all season.

Butler is putting the “petty” in “competitive”, reminding DeRozan on everything he’s missing out on with Butler’s new best friend.
