Ohio State football knows C.J. Stroud will be their starter next year but the quarterback depth chart looks thin with Quinn Ewer transferring.
Ohio State came into the 2021 season with four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Theyāre finishing up 2021 with just two remaining.
Freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers is on his way to the transfer portal while Jack Miller already jumped ship.
The Buckeyes donāt need to worry to much about their starter with C.J. Stroud returning as a Heisman candidate. However, the depth chart behind him isnāt certain.
Depth chart after Ohio State QB transfer
- C.J. Stroud
- Kyle McCord
- Devin Brown
Stroud will hold the top spot on the depth part short of injury or unexpected development.
Behind Stroud, Kyle McCord is expected to return to the Buckeyes. However, heāll do so knowing he has to wait his turn for Stroud to leave for the NFL.
It remains to be seen if he will stick with that plan. The fact that heās set up to be Stroudās direct backup could keep him in place.
The Buckeyes just picked up a commitment from former USC commit Devin Brown. The four-star quarterback will sign as part of the class of 2022, so as long as Ryan Day plays his cards right heāll welcome a third scholarship quarterback to the team before next fall.
If Day isnāt satisfied with having three QBs, he could look to the transfer portal. For now, those should be enough to get the Buckeyes where they want to go in 2022.
