A pair of Clemson football players are hitting the transfer portal in backup quarterback Taisun Phommachanh and wide receiver Frank Ladson.

Taisun Phommachanh and Frank Ladson are the latest Clemson football players to enter the transfer portal.

The usual ACC juggernaut went 9-3 this season. While down years happen, it makes sense as to why these two players are leaving the Clemson Family.

As Grace Raynor of The Athletic reports, Phommachanh may see his chances of playing at Clemson slipping away with five-star Cade Klubnik coming in, as well as the Tigers’ hot pursuit of landing five-star Arch Manning for 2023.

As for Ladson, injuries derailed his promising potential at Clemson. He has been out since October after undergoing season-ending groin surgery.

Clemson football team loses backup QB, starting WR to the transfer portal

Under head coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson has not been a participant in the transfer portal.

While they have recruited well under him, a lack of offensive line development and not being propped up by a future NFL franchise quarterback did knock the Tigers down a peg in 2021 and ended their streak of ACC championships. It is clear with Phommachanh and Ladson hitting the portal they prioritized getting playing time above all else.

While Clemson is in a good position to offset these losses, it’s been a series of one exit after another for the program this year.
