The Heisman Trophy candidates for 2021 were announced on Monday with Bryce Young leading a group of finalists for the ultimate college football award.

The finalists for the 2021 Heisman Trophy are official with Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Kenny Pickett and Aidan Hutchinson making the cut.. Now it’s time to start booking trips to New York.

It was no surprise to see Young’s name come up as a finalist. The Alabama quarterback may have had his Heisman moment taking apart Georgia’s defense in the SEC Championship Game.

On Saturday night, Young threw three touchdown passes and racked up 421 yards against the nation’s best defense so far this year. In doing so, he pulled Alabama up into the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Heisman Trophy candidates: Bryce Young leads the way

Young may be the Heisman favorite at this point, but there is competition for the award.

Stroud, the Ohio State quarterback, overcame early struggles in his first season as a starter to hit 38 touchdowns with just five interceptions while maintaining a passer rating of 182.24.

Pickett stormed on to the season in his final year with Pitt. He’s already likely played his way into a first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft after leading his team to the ACC Championship. All told this year e threw for 4,319 yards, 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a passer rating of 165.27.

It’s not often a defensive lineman gets a trip to New York for the Heisman ceremony, but Hutchinson absolutely deserves it. There’s a strong argument he’s worthy of winning the whole thing with 14 sacks, 12 QB hurries, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and 58 tackles while leading Michigan to the playoff.

The winner of the Heisman Trophy will be announced on Dec. 11 during the ceremony presentation on ESPN at 8:00 p.m. ET.
