A pair of game-worn Michael Jordan sneakers from ‘Last Dance’ season are up for auction

A pair of game-worn Michael Jordan sneakers from his “Last Dance” championship season are available at Christie’s Auction. 

Michael Jordan may have played 1,072 games in his illustrious NBA career, but not all games are weighted equally.

Some moments outshone others: Jordan won the NBA championship in six of his 15 NBA seasons, and only one of them was the focus of the acclaimed docu-series, “The Last Dance.”

While fans got an unparalleled insight into that championship 1997-98 season that was the “last dance” for that legendary Bulls lineup, there are even more ways to connect to Jordan’s last great season. The game-worn sneakers of Jordan’s final regular-season game as a Chicago Bull are available now at Christie’s Auction with an estimated worth of up to $500,000.

The sneakers are from the Air Jordan XIII “He’s Got Game” generation, commonly known as Air Jordan 13s. The autographed pair is a part of the “Handbags x HYPE: The Luxury Remix” collection, which is an online-only collection available until Dec. 9.

The shoes were worn during the Bulls’ last regular-season game against the New York Knicks on April 18, 1998. The Bulls emerged victorious by just two points, ending the game 111-109. The Bulls finished that season 62-20, winning the finals two months later in a six-game series versus the Utah Jazz.

As with every valuable artifact, the ownership of the Jordans have a fascinating story: Jordan actually gifted these shoes to his longtime NBA rival, Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas. Thomas then gifted the pair to his son, Joshua, as a birthday gift. Joshua Thomas included a Letter of Provenance when including his shoes to the Christie’s collection.

Earlier this year, a pair of Michael Jordan game-worn Nike Air Ships went for $1.47 million at a Sotheby’s auction. While the rookie kicks set the record for most expensive game-worn footwear ever sold, Jordan could break his own record again during the Christie’s auction. As is the case with such a legend, only Michael Jordan can beat Michael Jordan.
