Michigan football: J.J. McCarthy donates NIL money to Oxford High School shooting victims
By John Buhler
Michigan football player J.J. McCarthy donated $3,000 of his NIL money to those impacted by the tragedy in the nearby Oxford community.
The Michigan football program should be so proud of true freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Though he is not the starting signal-caller for the Big Ten champion Michigan Wolverines who are College Football Playoff bound, McCarthy is already making a tremendous impact off the field. He made a promise to donate a portion of his NIL money “to children’s hospitals, families, and programs in need as part of the JJ For the Kids Foundation.” He also is helping out those in Oxford.
McCarthy outlined his contributions in a well-crafted Twitter post, including $3,000 of his NIL money going to the “families of Oxford High School and The Oxford School Fund for those who have been affected by the tragedy.”

This is what it is all about. McCarthy smartly uses his platform as a high-profile football player on one of the best teams in the country for good. While there were unintended consequences with NIL becoming a part of college athletics, examples like this show it has been way more good than bad. For a teenager in his first year in college, his head coach Jim Harbaugh should be so proud.
Michigan may be in the midst of its best season since 1997, but the Wolverines have a tall task ahead of them on New Year’s Eve. The No. 2 Wolverines must take on an angry No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs team in the Capital One Orange Bowl in their national semifinal game. The winner of this College Football Playoff game will face either Alabama or Cincinnati for the national championship.
No matter what team you root for, we are all fans of McCarthy for his selfless acts of kindness.
