21. Harris and Nathan’s hook and lateral

The 1981 AFC Divisional Round matchup between the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins is one of the greatest games in NFL history. The hook and lateral that the Dolphins pulled off is the greatest play from that game.

The Chargers looked as if they were going to blow out the Dolphins after hopping out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter. Miami put together a run in the second quarter, though, and were looking to score again before halftime to make it a one score game. Dolphins quarterback Don Strock threw a pass to Duriel Harris, who immediately flipped the ball to a streaking Tony Nathan. Nathan ran untouched into the end zone, and the Dolphins ended the first half down just seven after being down 24.

Miami may have gone on to lose in an absolute epic, but that play, executed to perfection, is one of the best plays in NFL history. If the Dolphins had won the game, this would definitely be higher on the list. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Kellen Winslow put on one of the best, and most gutsy performances in NFL history to help the Chargers advance.
