13. Julian Edelman’s catch in Super Bowl LI
Look, we all know everything there is to know about this game. The Falcons held a 28-3 lead and were very clearly on their way to their first Super Bowl before Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader so ruthlessly ripped it away from them.
The Patriots had just made it a 28-20 game in favor of Atlanta. The Falcons began the ensuing drive in promising fashion. A 39-yard reception followed by an amazing Julio Jones catch on the sideline had Atlanta set up for what could have been more points to put the game out of reach. Instead, the Falcons got too cute with the ball and were driven out of field goal range by a combination of sacks and penalties.
New England took over from their own nine where Tom Brady and the offense went to work. After a pass was deflected up in the air, Julian Edelman made a fantastic diving catch off the toe of a Falcons defender, barely keeping it off the turf. The play went to review after a Falcons challenge, but was upheld. After this, it seemed imminent that the Patriots were going to win their fifth Super Bowl.
