Texas football signaled news of Quinn Ewers’ transfer with a well-timed tweet featuring noted Longhorns fan Matthew McConaughey.

When the Texas Longhorns secured the transfer of quarterback Quinn Ewers, they could have tweeted anything and fans would have been excited about it.

They definitely didn’t waste the moment with just any old tweet though. They pulled out one of the most recognizable names attached to UT in perfect style.

It was Matthew McConaughey time.

The Longhorns landed Ewers’ transfer from Ohio State after a week of speculation. The five-star quarterback had been committed to Texas before decommitting and heading to Ohio State instead.

He was originally supposed to be part of the class of 2022 but he reclassified to 2021 in order to take advantage of new NCAA Name, Image and Likeness rules.

However, his time at Ohio State didn’t go as planned. He was stuck at the bottom of the depth chart while C.J. Stroud contended for the Heisman Trophy.

Since Stroud was only a redshirt freshman, Ewers wasn’t going to have much of an opportunity to start for the Buckeyes going forward. He entered the transfer portal after the regular season ended.

Ewers was one of the most highly-touted quarterback prospects in recent memory. He’ll be almost as recognizable as McConaughey in Austin by the time he gets to campus and enrolls.

His next challenge will be to prove the hype by winning the starting job and then taking Steve Sarkisian’s offense to the next level.
