2. 1985 Chicago Bears

The 1985 Bears had by far the best defense in NFL history, which they rode to a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots by a score of 42-10.

The Bears had 54 takeaways in 1985- 54 takeaways. That’s more than three takeaways per game. From November 10th- November 24th, the Bears allowed a total of three points in a three game span.

They defeated the Lions 24-3 and followed that win with a 44-0 win over Dallas and a 36-0 win over Atlanta. The Bears allowed just 198 points all season, and that three game stretch is the best run any defense has gone on in that span.

While the Bears defense was the main attraction in the Windy City, the Chicago offense was also fantastic. They ranked fourth in total offense on the season, and their 456 points ranked second in the NFL. The Bears also fielded the NFL’s greatest rushing attack. Chicago ran for over 2,700 yards as a team, along with 27 touchdowns.

The Bears finished the regular season with a 15-1 record and shut out the Giants and Rams in the playoffs en route to their Super Bowl victory.
