NIL money was the talk of National Signing Day but Jimbo Fisher had a hilarious response on Finebaum that laughed right in the NCAA’s face.

Texas A&M football had a banner showing on early National Signing Day as Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies left Wednesday with the No. 1-ranked class in the country. However, they somehow weren’t the talk of the town.

With No. 1 overall recruit Travis Hunter flipping from Florida State to Deion Sanders’ Jackson State program, NIL money was the talk of the town with well-known rumors that the running back has a monster deal from Barstool Sports coming his way soon.

In the midst of the NIL discussion, though, Fisher appeared on Finebaum and had a hilariously blunt answer that the NCAA probably didn’t want to hear (though Jimbo Fisher probably couldn’t care less about that at this point).

Jimbo Fisher: ‘There’s always been NIL stuff going on, it just wasn’t legal.’

Fisher is basically confirming what we’ve long known about top programs in recruiting, that there was money somewhere that is helping get deals done before NIL was even in play.

The key, of course, is also what the Texas A&M head coach said: Nobody said anything about the pre-NIL money that was on the table.

It’s hilarious to hear Fisher — and others to a less blunt degree — talk about things of this nature that were so hush-hush for years. NIL has truly changed the game, which we witnessed on Wednesday and throughout the recruiting and transfer cycle thus far.

The only difference, as Fisher basically said, is that the money is now on the up and up.
