It looks like Brian Kelly is working on piecing together the LSU football coaching staff and he’s got some big names down for the coordinator positions.

The LSU Tigers are working on getting their new coaching staff set up as Brian Kelly looks to make his mark on the LSU football program. Kelly, previously the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, made a huge splash when he left for LSU.

Now it looks like he’s trying to find some assistants who could have similar impacts for his new team.

According to a report from John Brice over at FootballScoop, Kelly has been in contact with some pretty remarkable coaches in hopes of bringing them to LSU. One of those coaches includes Mike Denbrock, currently the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Finding a way to get Denbrock to LSU would be huge for the Tigers. He’s an innovative mind and could help the Tigers score touchdowns with ease.

FootballScoop reports that Kelly apparently tried to contact Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Todd Monken about the opening, but it appears that Monken is happy where he currently is.

LSU football rumors: Brian Kelly targeting Mike Denbrock, Matt House

But, if the Tigers were able to lure Monken away from Georgia, it would be a huge get for LSU. Monken’s Air Raid influenced offense would be fascinating to watch in Baton Rouge. This would be a steal for the Tigers that, while also improving LSU’s coaching staff, would potentially set Georgia back a bit.

And upsetting the power balance in the SEC would work in LSU’s favor.

Looking at the defensive side of things, it’s a little less exciting. But, that’s not to say LSU won’t end up with a good defensive coordinator. According to FootballScoop, Kelly has apparently kept an eye on Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Matt House with the hope of getting him to lead his defense at LSU.

That’s not exactly as thrilling as Denbrock (and it’s nowhere near as interesting as the possibility of hiring Monken), but it’s got the potential to be a really good hire.

Assuming Kelly can make that happen, that is.
