Florida State football lands high-upside transfer at WR

Florida State football took some lumps on early National Signing Day but the Seminoles got a big win by way of the transfer portal on Sunday night. 

Travis Hunter’s decommitment from the Florida State football program and flipping to Jackson State sent Seminoles fan into a doomsday mindset. They were ready to fight Deion Sanders, fire Mike Norvell, and tear the entire program down to the studs. Norvell, for his part, was a bit less dramatic.

While trying to deal with a relatively tough blow, that hasn’t stopped the Noles head coach from still getting to work to try and improve his roster. And one way he’s already found to accomplish that is to hit the transfer portal to address a big need at wide receiver.

On Sunday night, he landed a big fish with the commitment of former Oregon wideout Mycah Pittman.

Florida State football: Mycah Pittman commits to Seminoles

Pittman, initially a 4-star recruit and top-100 prospect in his class, went to the Ducks with a lot of fanfare about what he could potentially develop into.

Unfortunately, the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder never lived up to the expectations set for him as a recruit. Over 18 games and three years with Oregon, Pittman managed just 38 receptions for 547 yards and only two touchdowns.

With that said, Oregon’s offense has come under a ton of criticism over the years, particularly with the passing attack. They haven’t been an explosive aerial offense by any measure, despite having a quarterback like Justin Herbert for a while and high-potential weapons like Pittman and others to work with.

Subsequently, there should be reason for optimism with Mycah Pittman as he heads to Tallahassee. He may not have put it all together yet at the college level but he has the skill-set to be an impact player if the Florida State offense can unlock the upside he showed as a high school recruit.
