Duke basketball: 50 best players to play for Coach K
35. Gerald Henderson (2006-2009)
Gerald Henderson got to Durham following a season where Duke won both the ACC Regular Season and Tournament titles, but the Blue Devils were then knocked out in the Sweet 16 of the 2006 NCAA Tournament. That being said, Duke and their fans were hungry for success.
Unfortunately, that success didn’t come in Henderson’s freshman or sophomore seasons as the Blue Devils were knocked out in the Round of 32 of both the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Tournaments. However, in Henderson’s junior season, they really picked it up. Henderson averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while leading the Blue Devils to an ACC Tournament Title and a Sweet 16 appearance.
Henderson was also named to the All-ACC First Team, and the All-ACC Tournament team in the 2008-09 season, and then went to the NBA Draft. He was selected with the 12th overall pick and played eight seasons in the NBA where he averaged 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
