The Washington Football Team was gifted great field position against the Philadelphia Eagles thanks to tight end Dallas Goedert and a ridiculous deflection.

Garrett Gilbert is Washington’s starting quarterback, having taken very few snaps in the Football Team’s system due to limited practice squad experience. WFT is without starter Taylor Heinicke and backup Kyle Allen, meaning Gilbert was forced into action.

The first drive went as predicted — a three and out. Yet, Washington was gifted a bit of luck on the Eagles’ first drive of the game.

Jalen Hurts made a nice throw to Dallas Goedert on third down, but it was dropped by the Eagles tight end. What looked like an incomplete pass initially turned out to be a deflection, which hit off of Goedert’s heel.

For once, the officials were correct, but it still screwed over the Eagles.

Eagles: Is it time to bench Jalen Hurts?

When Hurts was out, backup quarterback Gardner Minshew played quite well, serving as a sparkplug for the Eagles offense. It’s led some to question if Hurts is the right man for the job in Philadelphia.

Hurts was always unlikely to be the long-term starter in Philadelphia, with Nick Sirianni looking for his own young quarterback to groom, at least at some point. Sirianni didn’t draft Hurts. That was on Doug Pederson.

Yet, Hurts has played well at times this year. With a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 13:8, Hurts isn’t bad enough in the passing game to warrant a benching. On the ground, Hurts is near 700 yards rushing with eight scores of his own.

It’s safe to say Hurts has earned his keep this season. As unlikely as that interception was, the smart money is on the Alabama/Oklahoma product bouncing back.
