Raptors, Maple Leafs donate concessions to food bank during shutdown

The Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs made an awesome gift to a Canadian foodbank, sending them 1,200 pounds of concessions from canceled games.

The most difficult times can create opportunities for the most touching acts of generosity.

Just ask the people of Second Harvest, the Canadian foodbank that just landed a huge donation from Toronto’s professional sports teams.

The food that would have been sold at Scotiabank Arena for postponed Raptors and Maple Leafs games this week is being given to Second Harvest to help feed the hungry this holiday season.

The Raptors and Maple Leafs had to postpone games over COVID

The Raptors had to postpone games against the Bulls and Magic over the last week because of COVID-19 outbreaks. Wednesday’s road trip to play in Chicago was also postponed.

The NHL has had to shut down activities for multiple teams including the Maple Leafs because of COVID. Toronto won’t play again at least through Dec. 26.

Bravo to the arena and both teams for taking the lemons from a shutdown and making lemonade. Instead of letting that food go to waste, they’re allowing it to better the lives of people who need it. That kind of donation will be appreciated by countless individuals.

Since postponements and cancelations are likely to continue this winter, hopefully other teams take notice and mirror that kind of generosity.

If games have to be halted, at least let something good come out of it. It’s the right thing to do.
