Ohio State football fans don’t seem all that interested in going to the Rose Bowl this year with the school sending back much of their ticket allotment.

The Rose Bowl is the most iconic game in college football and Ohio State is one of the most important programs in its legendary history.

Yet Buckeyes fans don’t seem very into it this time around.

Ohio State is scheduled to play Utah in the New Year’s Day classic. The Rose Bowl should be packed full of fans in red. Most of them will be cheering on the Utes if ticket sales are anything to judge.

Ohio State football sent back a third of their Rose Bowl ticket allotment

According to Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State sold 13,000 tickets from its 20,000 ticket allotment. They sent the remaining 7,000 tickets back.

Meanwhile, Utah has had to increase its allotment above 30,000.

Why aren’t Ohio State fans rushing to snatch up their tickets for a trip to sunny Southern California?

Maybe they don’t value a matchup with Utah, a relatively new Pac-12 program without the historic clout of a USC or Washington. That’s a shame because the Utes are one of the best stories in college football this year, overcoming incredible tragedy after the deaths of two players to make their first-ever Rose Bowl run.

Maybe the Buckeyes are still hungover from their disappointing end to the 2021 regular season, losing to Michigan as their playoff hopes were dashed.

Maybe it’s the looming threat of COVID-19. Of all the reasons not to travel this holiday season, that’s a reasonable one.

Whatever it is, Utah should expect the balance of the crowd to shift in their favor. Perhaps it will help them overcome the mismatch expected by the oddsmakers, who have the Buckeyes as nearly a touchdown favorite.
